A Deb a Day 3: CompizConfig Settings Manager

For those of you who haven’t picked up on this already, I’m a sucker for eye candy. That may be one of the reasons I love Vista and Windows 7 so much. Well, in Ubuntu, downloading the CompizConfig Settings Manager will unlock so many visual opportunities for your computer. Simply right-clicking on the desktop and selecting change desktop background>Visual Effects>Extra will change your visual effects, but for full customization, it is best to download this program. With this you can enable the desktop cube (a visually pleasing way to switch between workspaces), change opening/closing/minimizing effects (which includes windows catching on fire and burning away from the screen), window previews (which show a window before you maximize it), and so much more. I have found Ubuntu’s visual appearance to be quite unpleasing, but thanks to the Compiz-Fusion organization, and the CompizConfig Settings Manager, bringing a pleasing appearance to Ubuntu is easier than ever.
