A Deb a Day 4: Emerald

So, as you’ve seen from the “CompizConfig Settings Manager” page, I love eyecandy. Emerald is a great way to releive that craving for the eyecandy that you’ve always wanted. Emarald basically (with the right downloads) gives you thousands of other options for what you want your windows to look like. I’ve come to love this program because of its simplicity and its effects on user experience.
To get this program, simply go to the Ubuntu Software Center or the Synaptic Package Manager and type in Emerald. Download it, and install. It’s very simple. When the installation is complete, you can go to certain websites to get .emerald files which will change the looks of your borders.
One thing to make sure of is that Emerald is set as your default window manager. To do this, go to CompizConfig Settings Manager, and click on Window Decoration under Effects. Then, where it says “/usr/bin/compiz-decorator”, erase that line, and type “emerald –replace”, and this should do the trick. There are many places on the Web to find themes for Emerald. My preferred place to go is http://compiz-themes.org/ When you get there, click on the link on the left that says “Emerald Themes” and there are thousands of them there at your expense. Click on one, then download and open with Emerald Theme Manager. After you perform these tasks, you’ll have Ubuntu running as beautifully as it actually is rumored to be! Thanks for reading!
